Sell Ad Space And Make Money On Your Website

Your online newsletter or website or webpage can be thought of the same as your print counterparts. How do magazines and newspapers make money? They do it through advertising.

Newspaper and magazines employ many writers, editors, art directors, photographers, researchers; they pay for thousands and thousands of sheets of paper ink and the machines to create these print pieces; they pay for people to run the plant and operate the machines; then they pay dozens of carriers to deliver the papers and magazines as soon as they roll off the press. Newspapers are a dollar or two; magazines cost much more, from $4-$10 per issue. But is this where the publishers money is coming from?

No. All the money the publishers make comes from the advertising found in the newspapers and magazines. That is why when you flip through the pages, it seems as though every other page is an advertisement. And you're right. The amount of ad space to content space varies by newspaper and magazines. The ad to content ratio can be as high 3 to 1, fashion magazines usually the leaders.

It is a symbiotic or mutually beneficial relationship -- the newspaper and magazines attract customers with great content, such as written articles and photographs, and this in turn attracts the advertisers.

Your newsletter or website can work the same way. You can make money on the same principle. You can sell ad space, obviously the higher the price for the more subscribers or visitors you have. You can even tune it directly to the type of advertiser -- do some surveys, find out who is subscribing or visiting. Businesses want to sell product and will be happy to pay you to help.
